Campbellford Minor Hockey Coaching Code of Conduct

The Coaching Code of Conduct was created to make the Coach’s role more transparent to all. Coaches have the most important and influential role in CMHA and are valued greatly by the CMHA Executive. We thank you for your time and commitment and we are here to support you.

Coaching Code of Conduct:

1) I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win.

2) I will teach my players to play fairly and to respect the rules, officials, and opponents.

3) I will treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional and physical development for the same age group.

4) I will ensure that all players get equal instruction and support from staff.

5) I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players.  I will ensure that equipment and facilities are safe and match the players’ ages and abilities.

6) I will lead by example in demonstrating sportsmanship to all my players.

7) I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.

8) I will be knowledgeable in the rules of the sport, and I will teach these rules to my players. If I lack hockey knowledge in a particular area I will research independently or ask for advice from the Executive of CMHA.

9) I will be prepared and organized for all practices and games and will work with all officials for the benefit of the game.

10) I will teach mutual respect between coaches and players.

11) I will remember that participants need a coach they can respect. I will be generous with praise and set a good example.

12) I will respect and abide by CMHA policies, procedures, and applicable bylaws.

13) Read and follow the CMHA social media and Networking Policy. This policy outlines how coaches, parents, and players should voice any concerns privately, not in public, nor on a public forum (e.g. Facebook, Twitter).

14) I will seek CMHA Coaching Executive advice/guidance when an issue arises (i.e., Parent/player breaking their own Codes of Conduct) that warrants it.

15) It is my responsibility to communicate the expectations of behaviour to all bench staff and to model appropriate behaviour.

16) I will obtain proper training and continue to upgrade my coaching skills.

17) I understand that I am not able to guarantee absolute equal ice time because of how hockey is governed by referees, buzzers, and situations, but I will do my best to ensure whenever possible equal ice time and, I will give all players an opportunity to succeed, especially after mistakes.

I will follow all the rules, regulations and codes of conduct that are outlined by the OMHA (http://www.omha.net) and Hockey Canada (http://www.hockeycanada.ca) websites.
