CMHA Return to Hockey Plan
Submitted By Nancy Boivin on Monday, September 7, 2020
CMHA Return to Hockey Plan First, we want to thank you for your patience as the CMH executive has taken the time to prepare for this upcoming season so we can ensure we can all return to the ice safely. We have spent a lot of time staying up to date with updates as they are released from the OMHA, Hockey Canada, IHF and the Municipality of Trent Hills on a return to play plan. We strongly support the direction from the OMHA and the OHF and right now our key focus is getting players back on the ice, playing with their friends, providing good physical health, and supporting their mental well-being.

Our commitment and intention is to ensure we have hockey for all our members. We expect to be back on the ice as soon as ice is available in our associated arenas to begin another great season of hockey. There is no question that hockey during a global pandemic is going to look different than in past years, but we are hopeful that with everyone’s patience and cooperation we will be able to hold a great season of hockey for our CMHA players. It will be important for parents and players to be flexible in their thinking and in their expectations this season, more than any other, as we do not expect at this point we will be able to offer a “typical” hockey experience. The focus will be on returning to the ice safely, retaining engagement and developing skills for the 2021-22 season. The return to a typical hockey season will take time and patience.

The structure and number of teams, as well as number per team is yet to be determined and will be comply with the regulations as stipulated by OMHA. We may need to move players around this year and place on teams accordingly to accommodate this new structure. We are working with other centers to confirm a consistent approach and hope to have the opportunity for competition against other centers at some point for our older players. Younger players will be in a “bubble” also, but may play against other teams from Campbellford. For now, we will focus on development and getting our kids on the ice. We will do our best to provide updates as regulations are passed down from OMHA. Please be patient. It will take a considerable amount of coordination to ensure that we have all players on teams practicing and playing with other players of equivalent skills. Our priority will be to ensure that all registered players have an appropriate team to play on, but this may require some movement between age groups based on players skills levels.

In order to solidify our plans for the season, we will need to finalize and complete our registration. We may need to cap numbers for each team during the registration process. The current registration process was in place so we could get a sense of numbers. You will now need to register again per the process / payment method specified below. Space may be limited and players may need to go on a waiting list so we encourage you to proceed with registration now.

As in other years, each team will be on the ice a minimum of twice per week. We are working with surrounding centres to ensure we have appropriate ice time availability.

At this time, protocols regarding spectators and dressing room use are to be determined by the Municipality of Trent Hills. We will inform you of updates the moment we have them. We are asking that Players arrive FULLY dressed, including skates when possible. You will enter through the doors at the front of the building and exit through the door at the end of the dressing room hallway. Coaches must be made aware of a designated adult who will remain on the arena property should an emergency occur and your child needs to leave the ice. We will be following all arena and health unit protocols currently in place and we will adjust as needed if those change.

Each player will be required to complete a Covid-19 screening upon entering into the arena. An individual appointed by the organization will receive players at the door to ensure this assessment is done and other safety protocols are being followed. No entrance to the arena will be allowed if the assessment is not complete. Players MUST wear a mask when entering and exiting the arena. Physical distancing will be encouraged on-ice and on the bench. Every player is responsible for bringing their own water bottles, as they will not be provided by teams this year and they MUST be labelled with each player's name, as no sharing will be permitted.

CHMA Registration Fees 2020-2021

Please note that while our fees remain the same as in previous years, ice rental costs to the Municipality of Trent Hills will not be increasing to cover enhanced safety protocols and costs, but other ice facilities have increased costs.  Additionally, with new formatting and smaller teams, we will require more ice time, so costs overall for the organization will rise. We will also be working to offer power skating once again this year, which will be at an additional cost to the player.
